China's Foreign Debt Reached 549 Billion US Dollars by End of 2010

The State Administration of Foreign Exchange announced yesterday that China's foreign debt had reached 548.9 billion US dollars by the end of last year, a 120.3 billion US dollar increase on the size of the debt at the end of 2009. Short-term debt amounted to 375 billion US dollars, accounting for 68.4% of the total and up from the 344 billion US dollars recorded at the end of June 2010. The figures do not include money owed to Hong Kong, Taiwan or Macau.
